Skull Island: King Kong Revealed

Universal Orlando revealed more information this morning about their latest attraction, including a first look at the biggest, baddest Audio-Animatronic yet.

The newest video from the House of Universal has finally given us more details about what to expect when Skull Island: Reign of Kong opens later this summer at Universal Orlando Resort.

“This isn’t a movie. This is the real deal. He’s close enough that you’ll feel his breath sweep across your skin and his thunderous roar reverberate through every bone in your body,” says Executive Producer Mike West. West enthusiastically describes the new, 3o-foot tall King Kong animatronic that has been specially designed for the new attraction throughout the short video.

This massive monkey has a head the size of a car, is approximately 18 feet wide at his shoulders, and is covered with distinctive and violent-looking scars; likely from his encounters with the other violent inhabitants of his island. Kong will exist throughout your expedition on Skull Island in both physical and digital forms; but Universal Orlando is claiming that your physical encounter with the King of Apes will be “the most visceral encounter with King Kong ever.”

Skull Island: Reign of Kong is opening later this summer at Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Orlando. Technical previews are expected to begin soon after a few unexpected delays over the last few weeks (much to the chagrin of many internet fanboys). Rumors have come out that select media and VIP personnel have begun receiving invites for a VIP Media Preview of the event on June 22-24 so it looks like the weekend of June 25 is a likely time for an official opening.
